I began my career 42 years ago as a passionate and successful primary school teacher and became a headteacher by the age of 33. Wishing to extend my highly effective organisational and influencing skills, I moved into senior advisory roles within several local authorities. This included leading the Primary Team in the highly achieving Newport LA Advisory Service, where I led a great team of experts in supporting schools to raise standards and improve teaching and learning — work that received national recognition. As an inspector of many years, I have an extensive understanding of both the Ofsted and Estyn frameworks, giving me valuable insights into educational quality and accountability.
I regularly present at regional, national and international conferences and events, sharing expertise in school improvement, leadership and educational development.
My most recent focus has been on creating sector-leading resources that align tightly to the relevant inspection framework, to empower schools with self-evaluation and school improvement and to give them both confidence and success in leading their inspections.
Alongside my professional achievements, I have a wide range of personal interests including environmental work, diving, pétanque and skiing, reflecting my enthusiasm for both adventure and community engagement.
